Every day at Comfort Medical we hear inspirational stories that amaze us. So much so, that we want to share Jeremy’s MyComfortTM story as a source of encouragement, celebration, and connection.
A little background about you.
A meteorologist by trade and extreme outdoor sports enthusiast. Having two ostomies has not stopped me from enjoying my passions that include windsurfing, surfing, and snowboarding.
Jeremy, tell us a little bit about life with an ostomy.
Every day is a challenge, particularly with two ostomies. Dehydration is a real concern, so I have to make sure I’m drinking enough water with multiple electrolytes daily. I carry extra ostomy supplies and a change of clothes wherever I go.
What are some challenges you’ve overcome while living with an ostomy?
Strengthening my body has been a challenge. I have had two stoma prolapses since my original lifesaving surgery. Also just being comfortable in my own skin and not being afraid to show the world my ostomies.
How did Comfort Medical help you?
I switched to Comfort Medical from a previous supplier that didn’t carry a few of the supplies I needed. The transition was seamless and ordering new supplies has been a breeze.
What is important to you when choosing a supplier for your products?
Knowledgeable and reliable staff that know the products and understand my needs, basically making my experience as seamless as possible.
What is something you’ve recently learned to do with an ostomy?
I basically had to relearn everything and what my body could do. Once I gained my strength back after my cancer journey, I have returned to normal activities and have a much greater appreciation for life.
What’s an interesting or quirky fact about yourself?
I am a professional meteorologist and like dogs, but my dog doesn’t like rain or any inclement weather of any sort.
What words of wisdom would you give to others who have an ostomy?
Your world does not end with having an ostomy (or two). In fact, a new world and possibilities await. Dream big!!
What’s something you would like to accomplish?
Overcoming the odds of stage 4 colorectal cancer and my recent snowboarding trip in Canada have been big accomplishments no doubt. I would like to continue to try and inspire others and someday get into public speaking or maybe write a book.
